A pioneer in European bamboo production
Since 1997, producing the highest quality bamboo plants in Galicia, Spain — for gardens, landscaping and agriculture across Europe.

Lugar do Pazo, Doroña
Viveros Atlántico is specialised in the propagation and cultivation of bamboo. The nursery is located in Lugar do Pazo, municipality of Doroña, 10 km from Pontedeume (A Coruña). We have been producing over 30 varieties of bamboo since 1997, across 6 hectares of land. We have a stock of hundreds of thousands plants, making us the largest active bamboo nursery in Europe.
Our primary focus is the production of bamboo plants as an agricultural crop. Using a unique technology, culture and DNA identification, we ensure genetically selected, uniform and disease- and pest-free plants — a solid foundation for profitable bamboo farming.
In addition to our high volume agriculture-focused production, we also supply a wide range of ornamental and landscape bamboos to garden centres and professional green buyers.
How we propagate
Manual
Manual propagation is done by division (splitting) — separating established clumps into individual plantlets with their own root system. This method ensures genetic fidelity and is used for smaller batches and specific varieties.
In vitro
For large-scale production, we use in vitro (tissue culture) propagation in a laboratory setting. This allows us to produce thousands of genetically identical, disease-free plantlets from a single mother plant — the basis for uniform plantation material across Europe.

A rich European heritage
Bamboos from China and Japan were first introduced to Europe in the early 1800s. By the turn of the century, over 100 different bamboo varieties — mostly temperate varieties — were already known. Europe's first bamboo gardens were established and the plant became recognised as a beautiful exotic garden species. Very fast it seemed a decorative and useful material for the production of furniture, fish rods and other utilities.
In the 21st century, we are witnessing an enormous growth of "bambuism". Today, more than 400 different bamboo varieties are cultivated in Europe. In southern Europe — Spain, Italy and Portugal — bamboos can reach a height of over 20 metres, while in other western Europe they grow up to 12 metres.
About 1,600 varieties are recognised worldwide. Shoots reach their maximum height and diameter in a single growing season — you can almost watch them grow.

The Bamboologic partnership

BambooLogic is a Dutch company leading the European bamboo value chain. BambooLogic is active throughout Europe from plant propagation to processing of harvested bamboo for the green industry.
Plant propagation takes place in our nursery in Galicia and in Belgium. The team has bamboo experience going back to the 1980s and cooperated in over 25,000 hectares of bamboo field installations globally. Viveiros Altantico is connected with propagation laboratories in Indonesia and South-Africa.
Bamboologic currently operates 135 ha in Portugal. To deliver offtakers throughout Europe Bamboologic partners with growers in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, The Netherlands, Belgium and Greece.
Building a European bamboo value chain: from plant propagation to end products. European low-footprint bamboo for the European market — good for climate, agriculture and the green economy.
