A pioneer in European
bamboo production
Viveros Atlántico is a pioneering company specialised in the production of bamboo. Our nursery is located in Lugar do Pazo, municipality of Doroña, 10 km from Pontedeume (A Coruña). We have been producing over 30 varieties of bamboo since 1997, currently across 8 hectares of land.
The introduction of biotechnology and DNA identification procedures provides us with genetically selected plants of the highest quality, free from disease and pests — an unbeatable investment for our clients.
We have exported and continue to export large quantities of plants to some of the most important garden centre chains across Europe.

There are approximately 1,200 recognised bamboo species worldwide. Over 400 different varieties are currently cultivated in Europe, 300 of which are temperate bamboos.
A rich European heritage
Bamboos from China and Japan were first introduced to Europe in the early 1800s. By the turn of the century, over 100 different bamboos — mostly temperate varieties — were already known. Europe's first bamboo gardens were established and the plant became recognised as a beautiful exotic garden species.
In the 21st century, we are witnessing an enormous growth of "bambuism". Today, more than 400 different bamboos are cultivated in Europe. In southern Europe — Spain, Italy and Portugal — bamboos can reach their original height of over 20 metres, while in western Europe they grow up to 10 metres.
Shoots reach their maximum height and diameter in a single growing season — you can almost watch them grow.

The sustainable supercrop
Fastest renewable commodity
Some species grow up to 91 cm in a single day. Harvestable in 3 to 5 years. Once planted, it can be harvested for over 100 years.
Champion carbon capture
Up to 12 tonnes CO₂ per hectare per year. Well-managed bamboo fields sequester more than natural bamboo forests.
Sustainable bio-based material
Stronger than steel by weight. A versatile alternative to wood, plastic, PVC, composite and cotton for tens of thousands of applications.
Regenerative agriculture
No replanting needed — bamboo regrows from its root system. Low water requirements, no pesticides, thrives on degraded land.
